DEEP TISSUE & SPORTS MASSAGE
Massage therapy is one of the oldest complementary therapies known to man. Its history can be traced back as far as 2700 BC from ancient Chinese texts, roots are also found in India and Egypt. Hippocrates, regarded as the father of modern medicine recommended massage should be a daily ritual- that may be slightly unrealistic in our modern world but I recommend at least monthly treatments if possible, or weekly in acute situations.
Most of us living in the 21st century suffer some kind of anatomical stress, whether it be from too much screen time, driving, lifting, or simply poor postural habits.
Our bodies will hold stress, tension, anxiety and trauma, this often manifests as pain or imbalance. Sometimes the signals our body sends us are bypassed, massage therapy brings greater body awareness and a connection to within that deepens your sense of wellbeing and brings flow into your life.
I offer different types of treatments but experience has shown me that an integrative approach can bring the most effective outcomes.
What to expect…
At the start of treatment I encourage you to come into a releasing breath pattern and gradually, gently start to relax and let go, enabling the parasympathetic nervous system to bring you to a restorative state.
Although I work deeply I don’t belong to the school of “no pain, no gain”. Treatment is firm and careful, working with the tissue to release fascia and bring space into the joints, coaxing muscles to respond, leaving you feeling relaxed, energised and mobile.
Sports massage differs slightly from traditional methods by using advanced techniques, these might include myofascial release, muscle energy and neuromuscular work to treat specific areas of pain or injury. Runners, athletes, dancers will always benefit from using massage as a regular part of training and pre/post event work. I encourage clients to build treatments into their wellness regimes in the same way as a class or gym session, this enhances your hard work in the most relaxing of ways.
Deep tissue massage uses slow, deep strokes and techniques blended with skilled mobilisations and stretches to enhance your treatment. You will feel space and flow, not just functionally but also in your mind, breath patterns and posture.
The benefits…
Improved circulation
Muscular relaxation / stimulation
Deactivation of trigger points
Improved muscle function
Aids healing process after injury/trauma
Increased postural and proprioceptive awareness
Improves breath and sleep patterns
Greater mobility and flexibility
Reduction of tension and stress
RESTORATIVE MASSAGE
My most popular treatments are the deeply restorative Signature Treatment and Meditative Massage 75. Both are blissful journeys to bring you gently to the parasympathetic state of rest and restore.
Details are found in the treatment menu within the booking page.
CUPPING & DRY NEEDLING/ACUPUNCTURE
I offer cupping and dry needling/acupuncture as an additional tool to enhance your treatment.
Both work well when combined with soft tissue work.
See treatment menu for more details.
“I recently went to Emma for a sports massage to address a nagging injury I had developed while training for a half marathon. Her deep tissue massage techniques were just what I needed to break up scar tissue and relieve the muscle tension that was causing my pain. After just one session with Emma, I noticed a significant improvement in my pain level and overall mobility.”
